Arrojadoa penicillata
is a beautiful cactus from in southwestern Pernambuco, northern and eastern Bahia east of the Chapada Diamantina, and in the valley of Rio Jequitinhonha, in the northeastern part of Minas Gerais (Brazil), rare in habitat and cultivation.
Arrojadoa is a shrubby, much branched cactus, to 2 m high often supported by the surrounding vegetation. Pink or magenta flowers.
With their snake-like growth they are ideal cactus for hanging baskets.
It is a rather tricky to grow, as the tropical beauty prefers warm and humid conditions, misting in summer is advisable. Water regularly during the growing season and use a very draining mineral potting substrate. Keep dry in winter, minimum 10C at least. It is not cold resistant!
This plant prove to be root prone if kept too cold in winter.
It prefers a full sun position and possibly afternoon shade in summer, good drainage and very a porous potting mix.
We use pure mineral substrate (Lechuza Pon) which we recommend.
You will receive a bare root plant- it is a safe way to transport cacti.
Approximate size: 10-15cm tall.
